Marketing is a very interesting topic for me. I’ve had sweet, fulfilling and also very embarasing experiences while marketing.
Today, I’m going to be sharing with you what I’ve learnt so far through marketing, what it entails and how to do it right.
Some may ask, what is marketing?
Generally, marketing is a component of business management that deals with how one attracts customers and how one keeps them. Marketing is a very important skill to master in the business world. It involves finding customers and creating relationships with them while offering solution to their needs.
Personally, I’ve been put in several positions where I have to market a product or service. Sometimes, I did well but at other times, I made petty mistakes.
Marketing is one of the problems entrepreneurs face all the time especially at the initial stage of business start-up. Lack of effective marketing is the reason so many businesses crumble.
To be honest with you, marketing is really not an easy task. It is just like any other skill that you have to learn overtime in the course of managing your business. In marketing, you are tested in every way. You meet different people who might even make you feel like you don’t know what you are doing. Some might claim to even know your product more than you do. If you are the kind of person that gets angry easily, is impatient or has zero tolerance for criticism, then you have to start working on those if you want to learn marketing. This is because people might stretch you to a point where you start feeling like it is not worth it. But trust me when I say it is all worth it. In the long run, when you look at where you started and how far marketing has taken you, you would be thankful. Who says owning a business is easy anyways.
Marketing requires studying the psychology of people, knowing what it is they are looking for and what it is that they want to hear. Be convincing enough that when you are done, people just can’t wait to try out your products.
All these and more are the reasons why we are always advised to do only that which we have passion for, that which makes us happy. For example, entrepreneurship is something I love. I love it so much; I can defend it anywhere. Because of my passion for it, it is not a big deal letting the next person see the benefits. I can list the benefits of entrepreneurship anytime, anywhere. That is how it is when you have passion for something.
Let me tell you something about myself. I was never good at marketing. In fact, I never liked the idea of trying to convince someone to buy my product. But over the years, I’ve learned that you have to tell people about the true value of something before they can appreciate it. You don’t just assume that everyone should know everything about your product; its worth and benefits. It doesn’t work that way. Let them know, don’t assume they should know.
Not everyone is good at marketing but with constant practice, you learn as you go.
Different businesses use different marketingstrategies to source for customers and in time convert them to brand loyalists.
