Over the years, the percentage of female entrepreneurs keep increasing. More females now go into businesses for various reasons. Women are becoming more confident of themselves and their capabilities. Women are beginning to see the reasons to be less dependent on the men to provide for them and their families. There are lots of female entrepreneurs who are making it big in the business world. Example is the CEO of Tosh Coconuts Limited, CEO MirapsStyles fashion world and lots of others. Female entrepreneurs now compete head on with their male counterparts for survival in the business world.
Although most businesses are still dominated by male entrepreneurs, owning a business and how successful a business is or will be has nothing to do with gender at all. However, there are some common mistakes female entrepreneurs keep making in business. These mistakes have drawn them back from growing as they ought to. As a female entrepreneur, you might also be making these mistakes and not even know it yet.
These seven (7) common mistakes include;
(1):WRONG MINDSET: Female entrepreneurs tend to have quite a few wrong mindsets about themselves generally. For example, you think that you’re not capable of going as far as your male counterparts. You think it’s okay to settle for just daily survival. You feel weird about competing with males and so you relax, being okay with settling for “just enough”.
(2):SELF DOUBT: Having that thinking that you’re probably not good enough or that certain stage of success is for certain kind of people but you. Doubting yourself simply means limiting yourself. How do you even know you’re not capable of something when you’ve never even tried it at all? A good entrepreneur is confident because he knows he has something to bring to the table. If you’re not confident of yourself, then you’re probably not capable of competing with anyone and business growth is all about survival.
(3):DOING IT ALL BY YOURSELF: Women are used to carrying responsibilities. Responsibility of taking care of the children and family at large. Because of these domestic responsibilities, women feel they can take care of anything all by themselves rather than delegating tasks. In entrepreneurship, an entrepreneur won’t always have to carry out all the tasks, especially when the business starts expanding. Delegating tasks helps to reduce your workload, develops your ability to work with people and gives others opportunity to prove their worth.
(4):LACK OF FLEXIBILITY: Women usually tend to do things the way they’re used to. They’re usually not ready for change. No flexible plans or work time. They rather stay in their comfort zones for fear of the unknown or fear of failure.
(5):LACK OF SELF INVESTMENT: Female entrepreneurs hardly impart in themselves. They rarely make research to explore more knowledge. They fail to understand that improving one’s business means improving oneself. They would rather work with what they know already, forgetting that learning never ends. However, it’s one’s worth of knowledge that stands one out from the crowd.
(6):RUSTING TOO SOON: Female entrepreneurs tend to trust too easily. They trust investors, debtors, potential business partners too soon. They fail to understand that there are no friends in business. Business agreement should be based on past reputation and not because of what comes out of a person’s mouth. However, females generally have been known to show weakness with words and trusting too easily.
(7):JUDGING YOURSELF BASED ON THE SUCCESS OF OTHERS: This is particularly what makes female entrepreneurs feel they’re not good enough. They fail to understand that people are unique and success isn’t a competition. Anyone can achieve anything if they set their mind to it. The goal is different and no two individuals have the same resources and opportunities. You just have to work with what you have and at your own pace but be true to your goal.
In conclusion, most times we’re the cause of our own problems. If something is not right or you seem to be stock at a point or stage despite your efforts, look within. What is it that you might be doing wrongly? Having the wrong mindset is enough to make your business crumble. So, from now on, start focusing on yourself, the entrepreneur. You’re good enough, you’re capable, you’re great, you can do it!
